In honor of George Washington's birthday (now called President's Day), Cruiser OLYMPIA's crew celebrated by firing her guns in salute. The date was one of the most patriotic days in the calendar. The day was usually filled with competitions, elaborate meals, and an electric light display at night to complete the day's festivities.
